He confirmed that he does not plan to fire air traffic controllers who are absent from work. He added, "When they have to choose between working and feeding their families, I will not fire them; they need support and money, not termination." Schedule Changes For its part, the New York City Emergency Management Department stated via the "X" platform: "Delays at New York Airport are affecting other airports in the region." It noted that travelers to and from New York or through it "should expect schedule changes, aircraft being held at gates, and the possibility of missed connecting flights," emphasizing that all travelers are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport and to prepare for longer waits.
