Kurt Verweijlen, a spokesperson for the Belgian air traffic control authority, explained that a drone was spotted near Brussels Airport shortly before 19:00 GMT, prompting authorities to close the airport as a precautionary security measure. This incident comes in the context of a series of air disruptions caused by drones in Europe, as Copenhagen Airport and Oslo Airport were forced to temporarily close last September due to the sighting of unmanned aerial vehicles, and drones were also seen over a Belgian military airbase last weekend.
