ألقت الشرطة الهندية في ولاية البنغال الغربية، القبض على زوج متهم بمحاولة بيع إحدى كليتي زوجته مقابل 11 لاك روبية (ما يعادل نحو 13,000 دولار أمريكي)، بعد أن أوهمها بأنها مريضة وتحتاج إلى إجراء جراحي عاجل.
الزوج، وهو مدير مختبر تحاليل طبية، استغل معرفته بالمجال الصحي لتدبير جريمة منظمة، إذ أبرم اتفاقاً مع وسيط لإتمام العملية الجراحية، وتلقى دفعة مقدمة بلغت 1.5 لاك روبية.
بدأت القضية، عندما أُدرجت الزوجة ضمن قوائم المتبرعين بالكلى في مستشفى خاص في كولكاتا، لكن الزوجة اشتبهت في الأمر وأبلغت أقاربها، الذين تواصلوا مع السلطات لكشف المخطط الجنائي.
تجري السلطات تحقيقات موسعة للكشف عن هوية الوسطاء المتورطين وكذلك دور المستشفى الخاص، إذ يُرجح أن تكون العملية تمت تحت غطاء التبرع المشروع للأعضاء، مع احتمال وجود شبكة أكبر للاتجار بالأعضاء.
The Indian police in West Bengal arrested a husband accused of attempting to sell one of his wife's kidneys for 11 lakh rupees (equivalent to about 13,000 US dollars), after he deceived her into believing she was ill and needed urgent surgery.
The husband, who is a laboratory manager, exploited his knowledge of the health field to orchestrate an organized crime, as he made an agreement with a broker to carry out the surgery and received an advance payment of 1.5 lakh rupees.
The case began when the wife was listed as a kidney donor at a private hospital in Kolkata, but she became suspicious and informed her relatives, who contacted the authorities to expose the criminal scheme.
The authorities are conducting extensive investigations to uncover the identities of the involved brokers as well as the role of the private hospital, as it is likely that the operation was carried out under the guise of legitimate organ donation, with the possibility of a larger organ trafficking network.
