ولا تزيد أعمار المتهمين عن 15 و 16 عاماً، لكنهم استدرجوا ألكسندر كاشفورد (49 عاماً) عبر رسائل نصية وهمية باسم فتاة تُدعى «سيينا». وما بدأ لقاءً ظاهرياً غرامياً انتهى باعتداء عنيف بزجاجات وحجارة على رأسه وجسده، بينما قامت الفتاة بتوثيق الجريمة بهاتفها وسط صرخات حماسية تشجع المهاجمين.

ووصفت المدعية العامة كيت بلومغارت الحادثة بأنها «هجوم مشترك ومخطط بعناية، يحمل نية القتل»، مشيرة إلى أن تشريح الجثة كشف عن كسور في الأضلاع وثقب في الرئة وإصابات شديدة في الرأس والوجه، ما يؤكد وحشية الفعل.
