أفادت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» بأن الاتحاد الأوروبي يعيش حالة استنفار على ضوء تهديد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بفرض رسوم جمركية جديدة رداً على الرفض الأوروبي لخططه الخاصة بالاستحواذ على جزيرة غرينلاند.
أوروبا تفضل التفاوض
ولفتت الصحيفة إلى اجتماع سفراء دول الاتحاد الأوروبي الـ27، أمس (الأحد)، في بروكسل لتقييم الوضع على أن يجتمع قادة الدول الأعضاء نهاية هذا الأسبوع.
واعتبرت أن هذه المحادثات رغم كونها تمهيدية، إلا أنها تلمّح إلى أن الأوروبيين يفضلون التفاوض، لكن أوروبا كشفت عن تردد حتى الآن في التعامل مع التهديدات الأمريكية.
من جانبه، أوضح عضو البرلمان الأوروبي ورئيس لجنة العلاقات مع الولايات المتحدة براندو بينيفي، أن الحسابات قد تتغير لأن الرأي العام في أوروبا أصبح أكثر انتقادا للولايات المتحدة.
مجلس سلام غزة
ونقلت صحيفة «بوليتيكو» الأمريكية عن رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني قوله: إنه تلقى دعوة من الرئيس ترمب للانضمام إلى «مجلس سلام غزة» ووافق عليها من حيث المبدأ، لكنه يحتاج إلى الإلمام بكل تفاصيل الموضوع، خصوصا جانب التمويل.
وقال مسؤول حكومي كندي إن أوتاوا لن تدفع قبل الحصول على مقعدين في مجلس الإدارة، وإن الولايات المتحدة لم تطلب من بلاده أي مقابل مادي.
وأضاف المسؤول أن الميثاق المقترح لا يزال قيد المناقشة، وأن عددا من بنوده وشروطه قيد الإعداد، موضحا أن كارني أبدى نيته قبول دعوة الانضمام، لأنه من المهم أن يكون له دور في صياغة هذه العملية من الداخل.
فنزويلا.. الأمل والغموض
من جانبها، ركزت صحيفة «لوموند» الفرنسية على الأزمة في فنزويلا ونشرت تحقيقا من العاصمة كاراكاس عن امتزاج مشاعر الفنزويليين بين الأمل والغموض والخوف بعد أسبوعين من اختطاف الرئيس نيكولاس مادورو.
ونقلت عن بعض السكان مشاعر الخوف الذي انتابهم خلال الساعات التي تلت اختطاف مادورو، مشيرة إلى أن الفنزويليين هرعوا إلى محلات التزود بالمؤن، وسط خوف شديد بعضه نابع من غموض نيات الإدارة الأمريكية.
وكتبت «لوموند» أن إحدى القضايا التي تؤرق فنزويلا اليوم تخص آلاف السجناء من عهد مادورو ومصيرهم الغامض حتى الآن.
حرب روسيا وأوكرانيا
وفي الشأن الروسي الأوكراني، تحدثت صحيفة «تايمز» البريطانية، عن لجوء كل من روسيا وأوكرانيا منذ اليوم الأول لحربهما إلى المقاتلين الأجانب لتعزيز صفوف قواتهما.
وكشفت أن عدد المقاتلين الأجانب في الجانبين يُقدر اليوم بآلاف قدموا من كل قارات العالم، بعد أن استُدرجوا بالمجد والمكافآت العالية والخداع.
ولفتت إلى أن كييف تتكتم على أعداد المقاتلين الأجانب في صفوفها، لكن مسؤولاً أوكرانيًا قدّر عددهم بأكثر من 15 ألفا قدموا من أكثر من 70 دولة، لكن أغلبهم من أمريكا اللاتينية. وذكرت أن روسيا تُغري أيضا المقاتلين الأجانب لتعزيز صفوفها فيقصدونها من كل مكان، خصوصا من دول أوروبية مثل صربيا وبريطانيا.

Europe Prefers Negotiation
The newspaper noted the meeting of ambassadors from the 27 EU member states yesterday (Sunday) in Brussels to assess the situation, with EU leaders set to meet at the end of this week.
It considered that although these talks are preliminary, they hint that Europeans prefer negotiation, but Europe has so far shown hesitation in dealing with American threats.
For his part, European Parliament member and head of the Committee on Relations with the United States, Brando Benifei, explained that calculations might change as public opinion in Europe has become more critical of the United States.
Gaza Peace Council
The American newspaper Politico quoted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as saying that he received an invitation from President Trump to join the "Gaza Peace Council" and agreed in principle, but he needs to be familiar with all the details of the matter, especially the funding aspect.
A Canadian government official stated that Ottawa would not pay before securing two seats on the board, and that the United States had not requested any financial compensation from his country.
The official added that the proposed charter is still under discussion, and that several of its articles and conditions are being prepared, explaining that Carney expressed his intention to accept the invitation to join, as it is important for him to have a role in shaping this process from within.
Venezuela.. Hope and Ambiguity
For its part, the French newspaper Le Monde focused on the crisis in Venezuela and published an investigation from the capital Caracas about the mixed feelings of Venezuelans between hope, ambiguity, and fear after two weeks of President Nicolás Maduro's kidnapping.
It quoted some residents expressing the fear that gripped them in the hours following Maduro's kidnapping, noting that Venezuelans rushed to supply stores amid intense fear, some of which stemmed from the ambiguity of the U.S. administration's intentions.
Le Monde wrote that one of the issues troubling Venezuela today concerns the thousands of prisoners from Maduro's era and their still ambiguous fate.
The Russia-Ukraine War
Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian issue, the British newspaper The Times discussed how both Russia and Ukraine have relied on foreign fighters to bolster their forces since the first day of their war.
It revealed that the number of foreign fighters on both sides is estimated today in the thousands, coming from all continents of the world, having been lured by glory, high rewards, and deception.
It pointed out that Kyiv is tight-lipped about the number of foreign fighters in its ranks, but a Ukrainian official estimated their number at over 15,000 from more than 70 countries, with most of them from Latin America. It mentioned that Russia is also enticing foreign fighters to strengthen its ranks, attracting them from everywhere, especially from European countries like Serbia and the UK.
