غمرت فيضانات عارمة في موزمبيق، أمس، أكثر من 72 ألف منزل وألحقت أضراراً واسعة النطاق بطرق وجسور ومراكز صحية.
وقالت مديرة البرامج والعمليات في الاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات الصليب الأحمر والهلال الأحمر راشيل فاولر إن الفيضانات أجبرت أكثر من 620 ألف شخص على الفرار من منازلهم.
وأضافت: «من المتوقع أن تستمر الأمطار في الأيام القادمة، ووصلت سدود الماء بالفعل إلى طاقتها القصوى، لذا قد يتفاقم الوضع، مما يعرض مزيداً من الأشخاص للخطر».
وأشارت إلى أن فرق الإنقاذ تستخدم قوارب صيد صغيرة للوصول إلى الناجين، لكن الوصول إليهم يزداد صعوبة، ولا توجد تقديرات حتى الآن بعدد الوفيات أو الإصابات.
Severe floods in Mozambique yesterday inundated more than 72,000 homes and caused widespread damage to roads, bridges, and health centers.
Rachel Fowler, the Director of Programs and Operations at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, stated that the floods have forced more than 620,000 people to flee their homes.
She added, “Rain is expected to continue in the coming days, and the water dams have already reached their maximum capacity, so the situation may worsen, putting more people at risk.”
She noted that rescue teams are using small fishing boats to reach the survivors, but access to them is becoming increasingly difficult, and there are no estimates yet regarding the number of deaths or injuries.
